The Role of EKBY

The Goulandris Natural History Museum – Greek Biotope/Wetland Centre (EKBY) is a project partner; it contributes to all stages of development of the Biodiversity Information System and is responsible for the following tasks:

• identification, analysis and mapping of stakeholders, mapping of their knowledge and skills and investigation of their needs and expectations in relation to the National Biodiversity Information System, and assessment of shortcomings and challenges in the management of biodiversity information,

• inventory and review of existing biodiversity information and identification of potential data providers,

• definition of the thematic structure of the Information System and its thematic domains and ‘translation’ of user needs into biodiversity indicators and use cases,

• collection and identification of datasets and implementation of automated or non-automated Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes for their migration into the central database of the IS,

• application of innovative methods of data acquisition and information extraction in the pilot site “Kotichi Strofylia National Wetland Park”,

• synthesis of information for the calculation of policy support indicators, in line with the Greek National Biodiversity Strategy, the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030, the Convention on Biological Diversity (Aichi Targets) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
